The outer skin rooms are wrapped in a tensile fabric that allow the entire building to breathe. Each guest can operate their own “skin” electronically, opening and closing it according to their needs. Completely private, this outrules the necessity of either curtains or blinds. This “living” skin also reduces heat gain during hot African summers and wards off cold air in winter, while acting as a “greenhouse” for each room’s vertical garden. Situated in the timber-decked terraces, the gardens are designed to provide oxygen, passive cooling, and humidification for the entire structure.

Green spaces located between adjoining rooms gives guests the sense that they are in a corner room with two glass sides, and cylindrical showers jutting out into the garden provide a private outdoor shower experience. These rooms are also aerated  through the adjacent, perforated floors.

The cube rooms comprise an entirely different environment better suited to high-tech artists, designers and other tech-savvy professionals. Here three 3x3x3 meter cubes are chained together to create a bedroom, full bathroom and an office. When the guest inserts their card, the room lights up. When they exit, the entire room – like a giant computer – shuts down, thereby reducing energy consumption. These rooms are also soundproof.

Although not every guest is required to participate with what is happening in the ampitheatre, booking one of the 20 box rooms that teeter over its edge is certainly an option.

Architecturally and thematically designed in the shape of a drop of water, the Water Building Resort intends to become the first building ever to convert air into water with the help of solar power. What sounds like magic will be achieved with the following combination of nature and technology: A sunny, southerly facing facade made of photovoltaic glass will harness solar energy, allowing light to pass through. The northern facade features a latticed design for ventilation as well as unprecedented Teex Micron equipment that will convert humid air and condensation into pure drinking water

BIG's winning proposal was selected by a unanimous museum board among 6 proposals, including Norwegian Snøhetta, Finnish Heikkinen‐Komonen, Islandic Studio Granda and Greenlandic Tegnestuen Nuuk.

The project is comprised of a perfect circle projected on to the steeply sloping topography, which will create a continuously flowing gallery of exhibitions (reminds us a bit of the Kazakhstan Library). Constructed of white concrete, the museum’s exterior will patina over time, adjusting to the local weather and the sea air. An inner ring of glass contrasts the rough and tumble nature of the coast and sea, draws in the view and more importantly daylight for most of the exhibition spaces. Below the center of the ring are studio and atelier workshops, which are lit with skylights and horizontal strips of windows integrated into the landscaped courtyard.

BIG and its collaborators are attempting to move beyond the traditional, square box architecture in Nuuk, which ignores the unique nature of Greenland. The melted circle shape of the new gallery is designed to be more in tune with the surrounding nature. More visitors are expected to flock to the area and the waterfront after the gallery is open and will encourage further development of a Greenlandic national identity through art and culture.

“Greenland National Gallery for Art will play a significant role for the citizens of Greenland and the inhabitants of Nuuk as a cultural, social, political, urban and architectural focal point that opens towards the city and the world through its perfect circular geometry and shape,” said Bjarke Ingels founder of BIG.

Foster + Partners just broke ground on Hanoi’s VietinBank Business Centre, which is the firm’s first project in Vietnam. Located strategically between central Hanoi and the airport, the project consists of two angular towers that will serve as a gateway to the city. The landmark towers includes energy-efficient design and an innovative and low-energy humidity reducing system, which is the first of its kind to be used on such a large-scale in the region.

Foster + Partner’s project is a 300,000 square-meter mixed-use development composed of two towers and a seven-story tall podium, which holds conference facilities, luxury shops, cafes and restaurants and is topped by rooftop gardens. The taller of the two towers will house the headquarters for VietinBank, one of Vietnam’s largest banking groups, while the second tower will house a five-star hotel, spa and serviced apartments.

Energy-efficient design plays a huge role in the towers which feature facades composed of fins at 4.5-metre intervals that shade the interior spaces. The towers also feature an innovative system designed to mitigate the area’s high levels of humidity using a low-energy desiccant wheel. High humidity air is drawn into the system, which pulls out the water and expels hot, dry air. This air is then cooled by ground water in a heat exchanger and then released back into the buildings. VietinBank’s headquarters will be the first large-scale building in the region to use this technology

The town of Royat, France has been famous since Roman times for its thermal springs, and visitors come to the town to take advantage of the healing therapies of thermal water at the region's many spas. Vincent Callebaut Architectectures recently won a design competition with their proposal for Green Wave - a thermal spa wrapped with a living wall that is designed to fit into the urban scene in the center of Royat while providing a center for healing
